Frequently Asked Questions

How are WAEC grades converted to points?
WAEC uses a numerical grading system: A1=1 (Excellent), B2=2 (Very Good), B3=3 (Good), C4=4 (Credit), C5=5 (Credit), C6=6 (Credit), D7=7 (Pass), E8=8 (Pass), F9=9 (Fail). Lower numbers are better — unlike GPA where higher is better.
What subjects are required for university admission in Nigeria?
Most Nigerian universities require 5 credits (C6 or above) including English Language and Mathematics. Science programmes additionally require Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics. Social Sciences typically need Economics or Government. Check NUC minimum entry requirements for your specific course.
How is the JAMB + WAEC aggregate calculated?
Post-UTME aggregate = (JAMB score ÷ 8) + (WAEC points for best 5 subjects). However, different universities use different formulas. Some universities use JAMB score × some weight factor, while others have their own post-UTME result added in.
What is the aggregate for admission into UNILAG Medicine?
Medicine at UNILAG is extremely competitive. You typically need a JAMB score of 300+ and near-perfect WAEC results (A1/B2 in all required subjects). The exact aggregate cutoff changes each year based on the number of applicants and available spaces.
Can I gain admission with D7 in a subject?
For most Nigerian universities, a D7 (Pass) is not accepted for O-Level entry requirements. You need at least a C6 (Credit) in the required 5 subjects, including English and Mathematics. Some programmes require higher grades in specific subjects.
