Frequently Asked Questions
How is the due date calculated?
The most common method uses Naegele's Rule: add 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your Last Menstrual Period (LMP). This assumes a standard 28-day cycle. If your cycle is longer or shorter, your due date may shift accordingly.
What are the three trimesters?
The first trimester covers weeks 1–12, the second trimester weeks 13–26, and the third trimester weeks 27–40. Each trimester brings distinct changes for both mother and baby.
When should I register for antenatal care in Nigeria?
You should register at your nearest government hospital, primary health care centre, or private clinic as soon as you confirm your pregnancy — ideally before 12 weeks. The Nigerian government recommends at least 8 antenatal visits during pregnancy.
Is only 1 in 5 Nigerian women receives adequate antenatal care?
According to NDHS data, attendance at antenatal visits remains uneven across states. Urban areas such as Lagos and Abuja have higher rates of skilled care, while rural areas in the North still face access challenges. All women are encouraged to register early.
What if I don't know my LMP date?
If you do not know your LMP, enter your estimated conception date instead. An ultrasound scan performed before 20 weeks is the most accurate way to determine gestational age and due date.
