Roofing Calculator Nigeria — Sheets, Timber and Cost

A typical 4-bedroom duplex with a hip roof and 0.6m overhang requires approximately 120–160 long-span roofing sheets. The exact number depends on the sheet length (typically 2.4m–6m), roof pitch, and overhang. This calculator estimates based on your building dimensions and roof type.

A gable roof has two sloping sides meeting at a ridge, with triangular ends (gables). It is simpler and uses fewer materials. A hip roof has four sloping sides with no vertical gable ends — it is more complex, wind-resistant, and uses more materials (about 20–30% more than gable). Hip roofs are more common in Nigerian contemporary homes.

The most popular options in Nigeria are: Long-span aluminium (budget-friendly, lightweight), Aluminium step tiles (better appearance, mid-range), Stone-coated steel (Decra/Metastone — premium, durable, 50+ year lifespan), Fibre cement sheets (for industrial use). For residential homes, stone-coated tiles are increasingly preferred despite the higher upfront cost.

Long-span aluminium sheets: ₦3,500–₦6,000 each (3m length). Stone-coated tiles: ₦1,200–₦2,500 per sqm. Roofing nails: ₦1,500–₦2,500 per kg. Timber (2×3 inch): ₦1,200–₦1,800 per length. Complete roofing labour + materials for a 3-bedroom bungalow can cost ₦2M–₦5M depending on type and finish.

Roofing requires two main timber elements: rafters (support the sheets) spaced at 600mm centres, and purlins (horizontal battens) spaced at 600–900mm centres.
